Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS)
Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is a systemic approach to teaching and managing behavior in schools. The goal is to enhance the capacity of schools, families, and communities to create and maintain positive school environments so all students can achieve academically and socially.
Under PBIS, schools seek to consistently implement policies and procedures that emphasize proactive, instructive, and restorative approaches to student behavior. Schools apply PBIS practices throughout the school in both classroom and non-classroom settings (such as hallways, buses, and restrooms). In this way, all staff have an important role in helping students achieve outcomes by choosing more effective, efficient, and desirable behaviors.
The Glendale Unified PBIS Implementation currently includes more than 30 school sites and programs across five cohort teams, including approximately 250 school site administrative and certificated leaders from elementary through high school. We work in close collaboration with the Los Angeles County Office of Education PBIS Leadership Team to improve school climate and student engagement in support of our district LCAP goals.
